Bristol Regional Medical Center
Bristol Regional Medical Center operates in a state-of-the-art facility that opened in 1994. Bristol Regional is a founding member of the Wellmont Health System, merging with Holston Valley Medical Center in Kingsport in 1996 to create the region’s premier health system.
In 2000, Bristol Regional’s intensive care unit was named one of the Top 100 ICUs in the nation by Solucient, a national healthcare information company. And, in 2006, the hospital’s Comprehensive Stroke Center achieved certification as a primary stroke center by the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations. Bristol Regional is committed to staying of the cutting edge of technology. The hospital was the first in the region to offer advanced treatment and diagnostic options such as the CyberKnife Stereotactic Radiosurgery System and image-guided radiation therapy for cancer patients, a digital cardiac catheterization laboratory and a 3T MRI and 64-slice CT scanner for capturing the highest quality medical images. The hospital’s centers of excellence include cardiac care, the J.D. and Lorraine Nicewonder Cancer Center, the Comprehensive Stroke Center, the Wellmont Diabetes Treatment Center, an emergency department and Level II trauma center, inpatient and outpatient hospice and palliative care, neuroscience, occupational health, outpatient services, rehabilitation services and women’s health.
Staffed by nearly 250 board-certified or board-eligible physicians and more than 1,375 talented nurses, technicians and support staff members, Bristol Regional is led by an administrative team, skilled physicians and community volunteers who serve as the hospital’s board of directors.

A Top 100 Heart Hospital, JCMC performs more heart surgeries than any other facility in East Tennessee – including Knoxville and Chattanooga – and is the home of the region’s only children’s hospital. MSHA is supported by its helicopter emergency service, Wings Air Rescue, with bases in Johnson City, Morristown and Jenkins, Ky.
